Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, has been garnering attention not only for his lavish purchases but also for his recent foray into artificial intelligence investments through his family office, Bezos Expeditions.

According to exclusive data provided by FINTRX, a private wealth intelligence platform, all investments made by Bezos Expeditions this year have been in the realm of artificial intelligence. While the exact amounts of these investments have not been disclosed, Bezos Expeditions has participated in funding rounds totaling over $1 billion.

One of Bezos’ key investments was in Perplexity AI, an AI-powered search engine company, where he participated in a $73.6 million Series B round in January. The value of this investment reportedly doubled by April, with the company’s valuation reaching between $2.5 billion and $3 billion. In February, Bezos Expeditions invested in Figure AI, a humanoid-robot company, as part of a $675 million venture round. Additionally, in July, Bezos invested in Skild AI, a company focused on AI systems for machines and robotics devices, as part of a $300 million Series A round.

While Bezos Expeditions has historically been tech-heavy in its investments, with 70% allocated to technology, recent data suggests that Bezos’ primary focus is now on AI. This shift aligns with Bezos’ sentiments about the profound impact of AI tools on technology and society. He views AI as not just inventions but discoveries that have the potential to vastly improve and save humanity.

Bezos is not alone in his interest in AI investments. According to the UBS Global Family Office Report, AI is now the favored investment category for family offices, with 78% planning to invest in AI in the next two to three years. Amazon itself has been allocating significant resources to AI, with plans to invest over $100 billion in data centers and recent investments in AI safety and research firm, Anthropic.

As Bezos continues to expand his AI investments and with Amazon’s focus on AI technologies, it is evident that artificial intelligence is a key area of interest for both Bezos and other family offices. With ample cash reserves at his disposal, Bezos is well-positioned to capitalize on the AI boom and shape the future of technology and innovation.
